"A 'maincrop' variety and long standing French regional favourite"
Officially introduced in the 1880's but a regional favourite for much longer, producing large roots with lots of flavour. For French braised carrots, boil in chicken stock with 2 tsps of sugar. Remove when tender, reduce stock until syrup-like, coat the carrots and serve.
For outdoor sowing:
From March to June in a prepared seed bed.
Sow thinly in rows 30cm. apart. Cover lightly with 1,5cm. of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 14-21 days. For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks.
When harvesting select young carrots alternately from the row, allowing the remainder to develop fully. No other thinning is needed if sown thinly. Keep well watered to prevent the roots splitting. Keep weed free at all the times.
