Fennel

Fennel Fino is a tuberous plant. The lower part of the stem becomes thicker and forms with the other a kind of tuber above the roots. They are beautiful plants. The taste is southern European; slightly aniseed-like and somewhat sweet. In Italy, the tuber is shredded raw in salads; in the French kitchen it is usually cooked. Very tasty is boiled tuber fennel with ham and cheese.
