Johnsons are the breeders of 'The Exhibition' Onion.
With these onion exhibition seeds you grow the popular heavyweight variety. It's highly prized for it's record size, weight and has a sweet mild flavour.
Sow Indoors in December to February, although the old traditional says to sow on boxing day if you want the show winning large onions.
Sow thinly in seed trays of good quality compost, cover with approx 1cm of compost, firm and water. Cover with glass or polythene and keep at around 18c - seedling will appear in 14 - 28 days.
Further care: Remove cover when seedlings appear and Transplant to further trays or individual pots and grow on, gradually reducing temperature to 10-12gr. and progressively allowing more ventilation, ensure high light levels but be careful of scorching from direct sunlight. Transfer into a cold frame in March or April, before transplanting into the growing position in late April-May, setting plants 30cm apart.
Keep wel watered and top dress with a good general fertilizer.
Harvest in August to September.
