For the successful cultivation of Canterbury bells, the light-requiring seeds are sown shallowly onto a moist seedbed from May through July, with germination occurring after two to three weeks. In the months of October and November, the seedlings can then be thinned out or transplanted directly to their permanent, sunny or partially shaded location with a spacing of 30 by 30 centimetres. Further care consists of regular watering during dry spells and supporting the tall flower stalks in strong winds. Promptly removing faded flowers stimulates a longer blooming period. Protect the young leaf rosettes from frost with leaves or fleece.
